Amtrak is making it easier for travellers to escape the cold of winter and head south by putting tickets for its Auto Train on sale.
Instead of driving some 900 miles on the I-95 between the Northeast states and Florida, passengers can bring their vehicle aboard the Auto Train and enjoy the journey in comfort.
Tickets are selling as low as $29 for a one-way Coach ticket. Passengers can also pay $229 for a roomette or $429 for a First Class private room, plus the cost of a vehicle.
The Auto Train offers daily, non-stop journeys between Lorton, Virginia and Sanford, Florida.
Tickets went on sale Tuesday, 22 November, and passengers only have until 29 November to grab tickets at these prices.
These low-price tickets are for journeys north from Sanford, Florida, to Lorton, Virginia, from 30 November to 23 March 2023. The tickets for trips south are available from 16 January 2023 to 30 June 2023.
The Auto Train
With three different ticket types available, a range of travellers with different budgets can enjoy the east coast train.
Customers travelling in Coach can enjoy reclining seats with plenty of legroom, no middle seat and a large window to enjoy the beautiful views. Before arriving at your destination, all Coach passengers receive a complimentary continental breakfast.
For more privacy, a Roomette costs $229 per passenger but features priority boarding, complimentary dinner and breakfast and a dedicated attendant onboard. A Roomette has comfortable seating for two, newly-upgraded bedding, pillows, linen and towels.
Those travelling in a $429 Bedroom also receive priority boarding, complimentary dinner and breakfast and a dedicated attendant. A Bedroom offers twice the space as a Roomette but also an in-room shower, sink and restroom.
“Private rooms provide travellers with a first class, one-of-a-kind experience to see the country,” says Roger Harris, Amtrak Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Revenue Officer.
Whether you’re planning to travel north or south, passengers can travel with their vehicles, including cars, SUVs, vans, motorcycles, small boats, or jet skis.
The Amtrak Auto Train is the only one of its kind in the United States and eliminates nearly 900 miles of driving between the Northeast and Florida.

Amtrak still requires passengers to wear masks while on the train or in a station, in line with the federal transportation mask mandate. The mask mandate has been extended until at least 18 April 2023.
In September, Amtrak issued a new net-zero emissions target, pledging to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its network by 2045.
The company is seeking to achieve this goal by implementing more renewable fuels and energy.
