When is the Best Time To Visit Cape Verde?

Dubbed ‘the African Caribbean,’ Cape Verde (also known as Cabo Verde) is an island country located in the central Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa. It’s made up of ten volcanic islands, nine of which are inhabited.

So, when is the best time to visit this archipelago? Let’s explore.

Cape Verde has a dry tropical climate for the majority of the time, with a short rainy season during August. The environment offers visitors a bucketload of sunshine all year long. Temperatures usually range from 24°C –  30°C (75°F – 86 °F).

While Autumn brings sp,e rain, and winter brings wind, spring and summer are all about balmy, dry temperatures, and minimal humidity.

Spring: Feb- April (Dry Season)

Spring is a truly delicious time on the island, offering dry and warm weather that’s ideal for exploring. Temperatures at this time are usually around 26°C (78°F), and very little rain occurs. Spring is also the sunniest time in Cape Verde, so sun worshippers behold! Visitors will likely see about 7 hours of sunshine a day.

Summer: May-July (Dry Season)

Summer in Cape Verde boasts hot and dry weather, with average temperatures sitting between 24°C – 27°C (75° – 80°F). Summer isn’t as sunny as springtime; however, visitors can enjoy around 5 hours of sunshine each day.

Summer is a great time to chill on the beach or engage in water sports without the hassle of wind or rain.

Autumn: August to October (Rainy Season)

August is the rainiest month in Cape Verde; however, thanks to the tropical climate, showers are short, light, and warm. Travelers should note that humidity is also higher at this time, so it won’t suit everyone, especially those wanting to hike and explore the outdoors.

While the weather is a little unpredictable during Autumn, travelers can expect sunshine dotted between overcast days.

After the rainy season ends, the islands are verdant and bursting with life. Winter temperatures are around 21°C – 26°C (82° – 84°F), meaning that beach days are plentiful. Nonetheless, things get a little windy at this time, meaning that the Atlantic Ocean might be a little rough.
